What is a Learning Commons?

What is a "Learning Commons"?

The Learning Commons is a 21st-century library. This means that the library resources, though electronic, are still at the heart of the collection. The Learning Commons provides library resources that are comparable to the 24/7 digital resources available at 4-year research libraries. We also provide:

  • physical spaces for collaboration, study, & computer access
  • faculty/staff professional development through the Teaching & Learning Center (TLC)
  • classroom instruction
  • research consultations
  • reference assistance, including online reference chat
  • tutoring services
  • test prep
  • bookstore management and maintenance
  • library programming/lunch n learn sessions
  • program and course guides

Our goal is that The Learning Commons and all of its resources are engaging physical & virtual spaces for everyone, making it the heart of the NTCC community.
